Çukurucuma Hamami - Turkish Bath

Discover the historical Çukurcuma Turkish Bath, an architectural gem believed to have been built in the 1830s. Originally known as Sürahi Hamamı and later called Süreyya Hamamı by the locals, this bathhouse was established by Naqshidil Valide Sultan, the wife of Abdulhamid I and spiritual mother of Mahmud II. It is said that she brought water installations to the Çukurcuma area.

Çukurcuma Turkish Bath features magnificent elements of its era, including a beautiful dome, a central heated platform, and private bathing areas. These spaces have been well-preserved, reflecting the grandeur of the past.

Adding to its cultural significance, the famous poet Constantinos Kavafis of Alexandria, who lived in Istanbul from 1880 to 1885, frequented the hamam during his time in the city.

Today, you can step into the Çukurcuma Turkish Bath and experience the traditional Turkish bathing rituals. Immerse yourself in the warm and serene atmosphere as you indulge in a rejuvenating bath. It's a unique opportunity to not only relax but also connect with the historical and cultural heritage of Turkish bathing traditions.
