Pera Museum Istanbul

Pera Museum's Orientalist Painting Collection features works by esteemed artists such as Osman Hamdi Bey, Jean-Léon Gérôme, and Ivan Aivazovsky. These paintings depict scenes from the Ottoman Empire, Middle East, and North Africa, capturing the fascination and romanticism of the Orient during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

What to see at the Pera Museum

Pera Museum was established in 2005 by the Suna and Inan Kıraç Foundation. The museum is housed in a historic building that was originally constructed in the late 19th century as the Bristol Hotel. It underwent renovations to transform it into a modern museum space while preserving its historical charm

Pera Museum is known for its diverse collections that span different periods and art forms. The museum features three main collections:

The Orientalist Painting Collection showcases the works of prominent artists from the 19th and early 20th centuries who were inspired by the exoticism of the East. The collection includes Orientalist paintings depicting scenes from the Ottoman Empire and the Middle East.

The Anatolian Weights and Measures Collection exhibits a unique collection of artifacts related to measurement systems used in Anatolia throughout history. It includes scales, weights, and measuring tools that provide insights into the region's economic and cultural development.

The Kutahya Tiles and Ceramics Collection features a wide range of Turkish ceramics from the 18th to the 20th centuries. It showcases the rich artistic traditions of Kutahya, a city known for its exquisite tile production, and includes tiles, pottery, and decorative objects.
